What a power meter actually adds
A compatible, correctly calibrated power meter measures work rate at the pedals or crank system in watts. Unlike speed, power is not directly lowered by a headwind or hill. It can help you:

- quantify workload across different terrain;
- see improvement at the same controlled power;
- coordinate accurately with a coach or training platform.

Stretch goal

Build the non-fitness skills
Your event will test more than legs. Practise:
- fixing a puncture with the equipment you carry;
- eating and drinking while riding or at planned stops;
- holding a predictable line and signalling;
- descending within sight distance;
- shifting before steep gradients;
- clothing changes and rain management;
- starting conservatively when everyone around you feels fast.
